Writing this blog is an odd pursuit for a shy person. My family and friends don’t always know what I’m thinking, yet I put my innermost thoughts on the page for the world to read. And I regularly wonder, “Why? Who wants to know?”
What drives me is the urge to connect. I’m always trying to understand the events of my life and searching for truths that touch others.
So what is my life about? I’m a volunteer tutor in an English language learners program for adults. I read constantly. Eating is one of my favorite things to do (yeah, I’m a foodie, but not the snobby kind). Color and texture fascinate me, which is why I like gardening and quilting. I’m Mom to two grown sons, wife to one really nice man, sister to my extended family in Ohio, and the boss of a naughty cat.
The personal essays and memoir I write often touch on family relationships. My work has been published in anthologies and literary magazines, and I’ve written a book-length memoir called BRAVADO AND A SKETCHY VISION LED ME HERE. It’s a workplace coming-of-age story that takes place in 1979 and 1980 during my first year of college teaching.
My blogs are on topics of interest to working women, middle-aged mothers, Baby Boomers, people who love to read and write, and those who belong to writers’ groups and book groups.
I hope you’ll enjoy my posts—please let me know what you think!
